Please see the instructions under resources to access our text book at home! This completely eliminates the need to bring the hard text book home!
Can you believe that in just a couple of days it will be 1 month in 6th grade already! We sure have been busy, learning the classroom rules, learning lockers, learning to switch classes and that is not even the beginning.
In our name STEM - we have technology and we have only just begun to get into it at school. Some of this will be a requirement at home as well so if you are unable to get your student on technology at home - please let me know immediately! We have after school programs that students can be on computers from 4 to 6 pm in the library that will provide your child the necessary tools to be successful here at Stem Launch. In Math, all students have been begun to become familiar with our new text book called Big Ideas. Every student is given online access to additional at home support as long as they have their ID numbers. We have been working on Whole Number Operations (+,-,*,/), Powers and Exponents, Order of Operations, Prime Factorization, Greatest Common Factors, and coming up this week is Least Common Multiples. On Friday, we will be taking a Quiz over the last 3 sessions, Monday will be a whole chapter review, and Tuesday will be a full Unit Assessment. I have explained in class that I really need the kids to reflect about what they understand and what they don't and ask for clarification. I have had a few, but I have a feeling that there are many, so please encourage your child to seek help! In Science, we have also been working very hard. We have been working on a Unit of Atoms. We have watched Bill Nye videos, done hands on experiments with density, learned briefly about the periodic table, and began discussions on molecules, heat transfer, and many other related atom concepts. Our assessment on this Unit will be NEXT Friday, Sept 25, 2015. On the following Monday, we will launch our first PBL of the year. You can preview this at http://mtnmovers.weebly.com/ Check it out! Conferences are coming! Save the Date! Oct 7 from 3:00-7:00pm. These will be first come first serve. Oct 8 from 8:00am - 8:00pm. These will be scheduled time appointments but we will also be taking walk-ins. Please make sure that you either schedule an appointment OR you are there by 7:00 as a walk in. Ms. Cirbo and I will be doing conferences together in 10 minute time slots. Your student will have a small portfolio of things to share with you and then we will meet with you with any questions/concerns/news, etc. We can't wait to have you in! |
